Four Items You Need To Help You Sleep This Winter

You know what it like when its two in the morning but you're still wide awake? You spend your time counting down the hours until you have to be up and ready for work/school again willing yourself for sleep that won't come. I feel you, I really do. I've always had problems falling asleep, and this past week it's been worse than ever, not dropping off until after four AM, and as I have to be up and working by 7 AM I am feeling the effects during the day.

Over the years of my sleeping struggles I've tried out so many 'hacks' and products that are supposed to help you sleep, and I thought I would share some of the better ones with you today.

Sleep Mask

Its so simple yet something I actually find really effective.  The sleep mask I use is slightly weighted down on your eyes rather than just a thin piece of material, which I think really helps you get full darkness, which I just can't get with my eyes closed alone. Not only do I find that it helps me fall asleep, I find that the quality of sleep I get is better as well, I must get less disturbed during the night - you can find the one I use Here

Herbal Pillow

Lavender has always been praised for its sleep helping qualities and when I was younger my mum would have lavender oils burning in my room to try and help me sleep. Being older and less trusting of myself with something burning in the room while I sleep I've opted for a heatable herbal pillow instead. Not only is it extra snuggly in winter, I feel the lavender really does help with sleep - you can find one from Amazon Here

Honey and Camomile Tea

I've never been much of a tea drinker, I never really go for hot drinks in general unless they're offered to me, but I bought this tea on a whim one day when I was feeling rough and desperately wanted some rest. Not only does the honey really soothe your throat if you're getting a cold, but the camomile really relaxed me and helped me not to over think while laying in bed. If you're wide awake in the early hours of the morning overthinking something embarrassing you did ten years ago that you just can't get out of your head, give this a go - you can find some Here

Wake Up Light

This item won't help you fall asleep, but it will help you wake up better and easier in the morning, especially during the winter months. I'll be honest and say I'm not a fan of the alarm sounds on this, so instead use the FM radio, but what it's really for is the light which gradually builds up half an hour before your alarm is set to go off, so instead of waking up in a pitch black room you wake up to the light shining, something that has been scientifically proven to help you wake up better in the morning. It really does make a difference waking up to this rather than the darkness, and definitely provides the push I need to get out of bed. Extra points if you put the clock somewhat away from your bed so if you want to hit the snooze button you physically have to get out of bed to reach it - you can find this Here
